With Increasingly changing weather patterns, more important than ever is for the individuals and communities to work together to improve preparedness and response to disasters and emergencies. Get involved in your community today, to help build capacity and plan for the unexpected.
Polish-American Amatuer Radio Operators Society has been invited to assist and collaborate in creating a crisis communication system for the Maine Township Emergency Management Agency and the club members want to include as many hams from the surrounding communities as they can.
Despite the township being located in the northwestern suburbs, roughly around Des Plaines and Park Ridge, anyone who can attend meetings is welcome. You don’t have to be a resident of the township to participate in this adventure.
Our collaboration will not only involve assistance in building a radio station and providing related training but also learning proper behaviors associated with radio operation that may be needed in extraordinary situations. Additionally, this is an opportunity to obtain certifications related to resource management during crisis situations (CERT). More about CERT can be found on the FEMA website.
We believe that this is an excellent opportunity not only to help with the amateur radio knowledge but also a chance to learn and be prepared for emergencies. It’s essential not only to know how to behave but also how to assist others in need.
