Evanston Bike Club’s North Shore Century – 21 have signed up so far (could use more SAG drivers or people wo want to work their radio alongside a Evanston Bike Club SAG driver), We could use 8 more
The event is Sunday September 19, 2021.
The North Shore Century (NSC) is sponsored by the Evanston Bike club and are 4 bikes route events rolled into one day. The premiere attraction is their 100 mile loop that starts at Dawes Park in Evanston, goes to Wisconsin and returns. The North Shore Radio Club has been supporting this event for 15 or more years. We work alongside the Evanston Bike Club volunteers…some have their own SAG cars SAG=Support and Gear), for which we offer radio operators. We support the Bike club’s volunteer lead for SAG operations and the event leadership.
We offer Radio communication support. We are seeking volunteers to help in these positions:
SAG vehicles (drive your to cover routes, to help riders or bring riders and their gear to rest areas. Gas is reimbursed)
Radio operators to ride along-side bike Club SAG cars
We need radio teams at the rest area to help connect bikers with SAG cars looking for rides back or to help communications to the rest areas.
We need a radio control team in Dawes Park or other stations to help manage the SAG team volunteers. For all of this, you get a great T-Shirt! This is always a fun event.
Please fill out the enclosed Google form to let us know how you might be able to help this year. If you need help finding a role, just drop me a note. Feel free to pass this along to your fellow ham friends.

Bank of America’s Chicago Marathon 2021 Ham Radio Team Registration – 91 have signed up – We could use 150
Be part of the biggest public service event in the Midwest. Ham radio operators work alongside the medical teams to support their communication requirements. There are several different type of radio positions available.
What we do? Ham radio has become an integral part of the Marathon’s medical communication. While we do handle some emergency traffic, we also report back to the organizers on some tactical issues, weather and help handle medical supplies. We do have three different types of assignments: 1) a medical aid station somewhere along the route that has a complete medical staff. We provide a vital communication link for them to the event headquarters; 2) We have people who work along aside roving medical teams in Grant Park and along the finish line. This group does a great deal of hiking and running; 3) We also have a growing team of folks who work the last mile…staged along the route with medical response teams. They help support the medical staff at the rest station and along the route in that section of the course. This section of the course also presents its own unique challenges as there are often crowds pressing in on the racers in that last mile and it can be quite noisy.
